What is RowID?
  • Each Record in an Oracle Table has a unique record id.
  • The ROWID has following information embedded in it.
    1. To which Datafile this record belongs to?
    2. To which table (object id) this record belongs to?
    3. This Record is stored in which Block?
    4. Within the Block, what is the row number for this record?
  • What is Extended Row ID?
If the recordid is in the above mentioned format (objectid-datafileid-blockid-row) then it is Extended Row ID. Else it is Restricted RowID. Forget Restricted Rowid. It was in 7i. It is not used after 7i.
